Brazil will be part of an international initiative to develop a vaccine against Covid-19

Initiative has the participation of more than 44 countries and seeks to accelerate the discovery of vaccine, drugs and diagnoses against the new coronavirus

The Federal Government announced this Tuesday (2) that it will participate in an international initiative to share technology, information and accelerate the development of vaccines, tests and treatments against the new coronavirus.

The Covid-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP) initiative was conceived by Costa Rica and is coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO). The project has the participation of more than 44 countries, international entities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), foundations and private initiative.

The goal of this global initiative is to accelerate the discovery of vaccines, drugs and other health technologies through research in science, ensuring products accessible to all. The agreement provides, for example, the sharing of genetic sequences and results of clinical trials related to combating the new coronavirus.

The government informed that Bio-Manguinhos, the immunobiologicals production unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), is one of the institutions with the capacity to produce the vaccine in the future. In addition to participating in the vaccine accelerator, minister Ernesto Araújo informed that the country will also establish bilateral cooperation with other countries that are carrying out studies in the area.

According to Minister Ernesto Araújo, the Federal Government is working to guarantee the presence of Brazil in other similar projects in the fight against the new coronavirus.

Ernestou Araújo highlighted that on the international front, the Brazilian government has sought to act in receiving equipment and donations of hydroxychloroquine, as in the case of Itamaraty.

The development of any country is related to investment in innovation and research not only in the academic environment, but also in companies and industries. In the case of vaccines, the investment makes the country self-sufficient in its production.

As a consultancy specializing in fostering innovation, GAC Brasil supports and encourages the worldwide partnership between researchers and science.
